Despite proving their worth and performing their duties daily 1,084 school heads across Punjab are still waiting for their entitled allowances.

The Promise vs. The Reality

When these educators passed the provincial merit test, they weren’t just accepting a title they were accepting increased responsibility. In return the system promised a monthly charge allowance of Rs 1,200. While the amount might seem modest to some, it represents recognition of the extra workload and leadership role these heads perform. However, the reality on the ground is Starkly different:

  • 1,084 Heads Affected: A massive number of educators have gone unpaid regarding this specific allowance.
  • Four Months of Silence: These heads have been running schools for a third of a year without receiving a single rupee of the promised charge allowance.
  • Duties Continued: Despite the lack of payment, school operations haven’t stopped. The heads continue to manage administration, students, and staff.

Key Insight: The delay isn’t just about money; its about the morale of the province most capable educators who earned their spots through merit.

The Lahore Crisis: A Double Blow

The situation is particularly severe in the provincial capital. In Lahore alone, 135 merit-based test passers were appointed as heads. Unfortunately, their financial woe extended beyond just the charge allowance. Reports indicate that these Lahore-based head have also has their leave and conveyance allowances withheld, compounding the financial strain on them as they navigate the city to perform their official duties.

The Bureaucratic Roadblock

So, what is stopping the payments? According to complaints lodged by the school principals, the issue lies within the Accountant General (AG) Office.

The principals claim that the AG Office currently does not recognize them as “heads” for allowance purposes, despite their official appointments following the provincial test. This bureaucratic disconnect effectively traps their hard-earned money in a red-tape limbo.

A Call for Action

Frustration is mounting, and the affected heads are no longer staying silent. They have collectively urge Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to take immediate notice of situation.

The educators are hoping that a high-level intervention will cut through the technical at the AG Office and release the funds that they have rightfully earn.
